Canada has temporarily suspended operations at its embassy in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said Tuesday.

The ministry said it was informed of the suspension by the Canadian Embassy but did not give a reason for the decision or specify how long the suspension would last.

In a statement issued Aug. 11, the ministry said it would continue engaging with the Canadian government through established diplomatic arrangements while the embassy’s operations remain suspended.

South Sudan and Canada continue to maintain cordial bilateral relations, according to the ministry, which said it looked forward to the Canadian Embassy resuming operations in Juba in the near future.

The statement was issued by the Office of the Spokesperson of South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The ministry did not provide further details about the suspension.
