Uganda Football Legend Emmanuel Okwi Retires After Distinguished Career

Uganda football legend Emmanuel Arnold Okwi has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a career that lasted more than 15 years.
Okwi, who captained the Uganda national team, leaves the game as one of the country’s most celebrated footballers. Renowned for his leadership, goal-scoring ability and consistency, he enjoyed a successful career with clubs across Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
Over the years, the prolific forward featured for SC Villa, Simba SC, Young Africans, Étoile du Sahel, SønderjyskE, Al Ittihad, Al-Zawraa, AS Kigali and Police FC, earning widespread recognition for his performances.
On the international stage, Okwi made history by becoming Uganda’s all-time leading scorer with 28 goals for the Uganda Cranes. He also served as captain of the national team, playing a key role in the country’s football successes.
Announcing his retirement, Okwi thanked the clubs he represented, his coaches, teammates, family and supporters for their unwavering support throughout his career.
The 15-year veteran said it was time to close a memorable chapter in his football journey and look forward to the next phase of his life.
Okwi’s retirement marks the end of an era for Ugandan football, with fans and the wider football community paying tribute to one of the nation’s greatest players.
