President Kiir Appoints First Woman to Lead Civil Registry and Immigration

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed Lt. Gen. Achol Cyier Rehan as the new Director General of the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration, making her the first woman to head the institution in South Sudan.
Lt. Gen. Achol replaces Maj. Gen. Ellia Kosta, who previously served as Director General.
Her appointment was announced on Wednesday through a presidential decree as part of ongoing changes within government institutions.
Lt. Gen. Achol will oversee the Directorate of Civil Registration and Immigration, which is responsible for civil registration, nationality, passport issuance, immigration services, and border management.
Her appointment marks a historic milestone for South Sudan, as she becomes the first woman to lead the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration since the country’s independence and comes at a time when the government is pursuing reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency of public service delivery and strengthening institutional performance across the country.
.Lt. Gen. Achol takes the reins from the outgoing Lt. Gen. Ellis Kosta, who served as Director General for several years.
