South Sudan, Sudan Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Support for Upcoming Elections
South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to South Sudan, H.E. Amb. Issam Mohammed Karrar, to discuss bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Karrar delivered a congratulatory message from Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mohi El-Din Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, to Minister Morgan on the occasion of South Sudan’s 15th Independence Anniversary.
The two officials reaffirmed the longstanding ties between South Sudan and Sudan and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Their discussions also covered Sudan’s support for South Sudan’s forthcoming general elections, as well as humanitarian assistance provided by the Government of Sudan to South Sudanese citizens who became stranded at the Sudan–Egypt border.
According to the discussions, the stranded South Sudanese are currently safe in Sudan and are awaiting repatriation to South Sudan.
The meeting highlighted the continued commitment of both countries to enhancing bilateral relations and cooperating on issues of regional and humanitarian importance.
