South Sudan Seeks Weichai Investment to Boost Electricity Sector

The Ministry of Energy and Dams has stepped up efforts to attract international investment after holding high-level talks with China’s Weichai Group on expanding cooperation in South Sudan’s electricity sector.

Minister of Energy and Dams, Hon. Agok Makur, met with a delegation from the global infrastructure and energy solutions provider alongside the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Macham Macham. The discussions focused on potential investments and partnerships aimed at improving the country’s power infrastructure.

During the meeting, the Weichai Group presented a range of advanced energy technologies, including solutions for modernising power generation facilities and upgrading electricity transmission and distribution networks. The company highlighted its expertise in delivering reliable and efficient energy infrastructure to support growing economies.

Minister Makur outlined South Sudan’s investment opportunities and priority energy projects, inviting the company to partner with the government in expanding electricity access and strengthening the national power system.

The meeting reflects the Ministry’s ongoing drive to attract international investors and technology partners capable of supporting the country’s energy transformation. Officials say increased investment in the power sector is critical to reducing the electricity deficit, improving access to reliable energy, and accelerating economic growth and national development.
