South Sudan Marks 15th Independence Anniversary with Renewed Call for Unity, Peace and Prosperity

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA&IC) has joined the nation in celebrating South Sudan’s 15th Independence Anniversary, calling on citizens to embrace unity, peace, reconciliation, and national cohesion as the country looks toward a brighter future.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry said that on 9 July 2011, South Sudan emerged as a free and sovereign nation, marking the fulfillment of generations of sacrifice, resilience, and determination.
The Ministry paid tribute to the country’s heroes and heroines, both known and unknown, whose courage and sacrifices made independence possible. It also commended the resilience of the South Sudanese people, both at home and in the diaspora, describing them as the nation’s greatest source of hope and strength.
The Ministry emphasized that independence was achieved collectively and urged all South Sudanese to celebrate the anniversary as one people united by a shared commitment to peace, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.
Reaffirming the government’s priorities under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to national unity, the full implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, continued national dialogue, and an inclusive transition toward peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections.
Looking ahead, the Ministry expressed confidence in South Sudan’s future, pledging to continue representing the country with dignity on the international stage. It said the next fifteen years should be marked by greater unity, peace, purpose, and prosperity, expressing optimism that South Sudan’s best days are still ahead.
The Ministry concluded its message by wishing all South Sudanese a Happy 15th Independence Day.
