South Sudan Embassy in Egypt apologizes over upside-down national flag

The Embassy of South Sudan in Egypt has apologized for the accidental placement of the country’s national flag upside down during a meeting between South Sudan’s ambassador and Egypt’s deputy prime minister and minister of health.

The embassy said the incident occurred in the background during a meeting between Ambassador Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop and Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

In a statement, the embassy said the incorrect placement of the flag was not noticed during the meeting and described it as an unintentional oversight.

“The Embassy holds the National Flag of the Republic of South Sudan in the highest respect and dignity,” the statement said, adding that it “deeply regrets this unintentional oversight.”

The embassy extended its sincere apologies and thanked the Egyptian government and people for their understanding and continued friendship with South Sudan.

The clarification comes as the two countries maintain diplomatic relations and cooperation in several areas, including health and other sectors.

The embassy reaffirmed its respect for South Sudan’s national symbols and institutions.
