Economic Reform Committee Pushes Security Reforms, Salary Payments

South Sudan’s Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform has called for security reforms and the removal of illegal checkpoints along major roads as it reviews the implementation of economic policies across the country.

The committee, chaired by Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol, met with senior security officials to discuss security arrangements and policy implementation.

During the meeting, committee officials briefed security leaders on recent assessments conducted along the Nimule highway, Jebel Ladu and the Yei Road.

Committee Rapporteur James Mawich said the committee called for the removal of unauthorized checkpoints and a reduction in the number of security forces deployed along major roads.

The committee said the measures are intended to improve security, facilitate movement and support economic activity along key transport routes.

On salary payments, the committee said salaries for the army have been paid, while payments for police and other organized forces are ongoing.

Civil servants are expected to begin receiving their salaries within the week, according to the committee.

The developments come as the government continues implementing economic reforms aimed at improving public financial management, strengthening revenue collection and ensuring timely payment of government employees.
