President Kiir in Bahr El Ghazal, what’s the significance of the visit
WAU, Western Bahr el Ghazal — President Salva Kiir Mayardit, accompanied by a high-level delegation, arrived in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, on Friday morning.
According to a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Office of the President, the Head of State is expected to address the public in Wau later this afternoon.
Reacting to the development, several residents in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, noted that the visit is crucial because it allows the president to gain firsthand insight into the daily struggles of citizens.
“Civil servants’ salaries have not been paid for almost two years now. People are suffering, and families are struggling just to survive. It is important that the president sees firsthand what people are going through,” said Reuben Majok, a Juba resident.
Mr. Majok expressed hope that the tour would motivate leaders to work toward lasting peace in the country, which he noted is essential to resuscitating the economy.
Another Juba resident, Agness Anzoa, echoed these sentiments, adding that she hopes the president expands his tour to all corners of South Sudan.
“The president should visit all parts of the country to see the kind of life people live. This will enable him to make informed decisions for the nation,” Anzoa said.
