EU, Ministry of Agriculture Hold Steering Committee Meeting on Green Economy Initiative
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the European Union (EU), on Monday convened the third Steering Committee meeting of the Green and Resilient Economy Team Europe Initiative (GRE TEI) to strengthen coordination on agriculture, food security, and rural development in South Sudan.
The meeting was chaired by the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Michael Roberto Kenyi Legge, and brought together representatives from key government ministries, co-funding partners including Germany, the Netherlands, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), as well as implementing organizations.
The Steering Committee reviewed progress made under the initiative, strengthened coordination among stakeholders, and provided strategic guidance for the implementation of programmes aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture, resilient livelihoods, and improved food security.
Speaking during the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of close collaboration between government institutions, development partners, and implementing agencies in addressing the country’s food security and climate resilience challenges.
The European Union highlighted that the Green and Resilient Economy Team Europe Initiative is designed to connect local communities with sustainable agricultural opportunities, enhance rural livelihoods, and support South Sudan’s transition toward a greener and more resilient economy.
The initiative is jointly supported by the European Union and its Team Europe partners as part of broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities across South Sudan.
