Central Equatoria launches national ID registration for exam candidates

The Central Equatoria State Ministry of Education on Tuesday launched a nationwide identity card registration exercise for Primary 8 and Senior 4 students across the state ahead of this year’s national examinations.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports and Immigration. Registration teams will visit schools in all counties to collect biometric data and process national identity documents for eligible students.

Speaking during the launch at Juba Day Secondary School, Director General of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports and Immigration Maj. Gen. Elia Costa said taking registration services directly to schools would make it easier for students to obtain the required documents.

“We are going to move from school to school to make sure that every candidate gets his nationality,” Costa said.

Costa said the programme would later be expanded to other states and the three administrative areas to improve access to civil registration services nationwide.

Central Equatoria State Minister of Education Satimon Lupai said the initiative would ensure students obtain the identification documents needed to sit for national examinations and access other government services.

Lupai added that the registration exercise would be extended beyond Juba to cover all counties in Central Equatoria State, allowing more students to benefit from the programme.
