Mobile Operator resumes in Leer, seven years after closure

By Ruot George

The Mobile Telecommunication Network commonly known as MTN has been restored on Monday in Leer County of Unity State, seven years after it damaged in January 2014, the local authorities have confirmed.

Meanwhile, residents there are expressing optimism after itsresumption as they hope to get connected with the families and friends across the country.

Mai Nyol, a Youth Leader on ground said that the only challenge was lack of airtime and shortage of sim-cards for the people.

According to Mr. Nyol, they can now enjoy the network services as they contact their loved ones in many other parts of the country.

“Leer is coming back slowly to shine on again. Congratulations my people for the job well done” Deko Dt Puok, another resident wrote on his Facebook page.

Leer County was one of the areas devastated by conflict since 2014 and basic services namely network operations and health care services were disrupted.

The network operation was cut off on February 1st after the December 15, 2013 conflict reached the area.
