A delegation from the African Union (AU) C-5 High-Level Committee has arrived in Juba ahead of a two-day mission to assess the implementation of South Sudan’s peace agreement and preparations for the country’s planned general elections.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the first delegation, led by Algeria’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chaib Sofiane, arrived at Juba International Airport on Sunday and was received by the Director General of Protocol, Ambassador Joseph Dut.

The Algerian delegation is part of the wider AU C-5 High-Level Committee, which is scheduled to visit South Sudan from July 6 to 7, 2026.

During the visit, the committee is expected to hold meetings with government officials, peace partners, and other stakeholders to review the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

The delegation will also assess the country’s preparedness for the general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026, by the National Electoral Commission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the remaining members of the AU C-5 High-Level Committee are expected to arrive in Juba on Monday to join the mission.
