Northern Bahr El-Ghazal Police Arrest Two Women Over Drug Case

By Patricia John

Police authorities in Aweil, Northern Bahr El-Ghazal State, have arrested two women suspected of trafficking illegal drugs into the area.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspects were found transporting a substance locally known as “Mango,” which officials describe as dangerous.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning, Police Commissioner Gabriel Guet Paliet Guet said CID officers apprehended the women while they were in possession of the illicit substance.

He noted that this is the first time law enforcement in the area has encountered the drug and warned that it poses serious health risks. According to the commissioner, the substance can have extreme effects on users, including suppressing appetite for several days.

The suspects, identified as Akuel Ayii and Adut Jurwiir, are currently under investigation and are expected to appear in court once inquiries are complete.

The commissioner emphasized that drug trafficking remains a major concern, particularly due to its negative impact on young people and communities.

Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson Madut Ngong Aleu commended CID officers for their swift action in addressing illegal drug activities in the state.

The two women reportedly admitted that it was their first time engaging in drug trafficking, citing economic hardship as the reason behind their actions.
