Journalists union demands unconditional re-opening of Al- Watan Newspaper
The Union of Journalists of South Sudan is urging the National Security Service to unconditionally re-open Al-Watan Arabic Newspaper which was closed on November 24th 2023.
“UJOSS calls for unconditional re-opening of the newspaper and urges any aggrieved party to take his/her case to the media authority.” Reads part of a statement by the Union of Journalists of South Sudan.
Al-Watan newspaper was closed allegedly for publishing an advertisement that was handed over to it and paid for by the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Albino Dhieu.
The management of Al-Watan says it has produced all evidence including receipts indicating payment for the advertisement but the National Security Service personnel but still the paper was told not to publish until further notice.
