Man killed wife over sorghum dispute in Aweil
The village of Malek-Alel in Aweil South County woke up on Sunday to horrific scene
after one of their own killed his wife in a fight over sorghum.
The paramount chief of Malek-Alel, Ayom Ateny Wek said on Thursday that the
suspected killer identified as Geng had developed misunderstanding with his
deceased wife known as Aluet, after she had demanded equal share of the sorghum
harvested in their farm.
Geng is alleged to have trailed his wife who had sought refuge at a neighbor’s home,
where he beat his wife to death.
Chief Ateny said the deceased passed away at Malek primary health care center.
“I would like to appeal to the public to be more forgiving and seek advice from
people in their residences to help them in addressing their concerns,” Ateny said.
The deceased is survived with a 3 -month baby and two other children.
Ateny said similar deaths due to domestic violence have occurred in the neighboring
villages of Pan-jap and Pan-thou in Aweil South County.
