The Union of Journalists of South Sudan on Tuesday welcomed the release of two journalists working with the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC).
Oyet Patrick Charles, the Chairperson of UJOSS said the two journalists’ victor Ladu and Mustafa Osman who were detained by the national security services on January 5th after being suspected for publishing a video in which President Salva Kiir appeared in a compromised position.
In total six SSBC staff were arrested after the video shot during the opening of the Juba-Terekeka road went viral.
“UJOSS thanks media authority, national ministry of information, communication technology and postal services and UJOSS legal team for the continuous engagement regarding the cases of the SSBC staff,” UJOSS said in a statement.
Among the journalists released earlier include Joseph Oliver, Cherbek Ruben and Joval Tombe.
“UJOSS urges the government to release Garang John and Jacob Benjamin or if they have a case to answer they should be produced in a court of law,” it said.
