Rubkona County has confirmed five cases of snake bites of which one person has died.
This was revealed by Jal Kuol Malow, the Rubkona County Health Director on Thursday.
“We heard from Budang Primary Health Care Centre that one woman was bitten to death by a poisonous snake on her way to Budang health facility,” Kuol told The Juba Echo at Rubkona health facility.
He disclosed that that in October alone, they registered 22 cases of snake bites of which 15 victims died. The victims were from Mayendit, Leer and Koch counties respectively.
Kuol blamed the rise in cases of snake bites on the current flooding in the area. He said many people are now forced to live on high land from where they are vulnerable to snake bites.
“We have distributed anti venom in all Rubkona health facilities only that some people are not aware of, and some people also prefer traditional methods of treating snake bites,” he said.
Last week a cobra snake chased people away in sector two in Bentiu internally displaced persons camp (IDPs) camp.
