SSCSA Condemns Attack That Killed 13 Security Personnel, 2 Civilians in Western Bahr el Ghazal

The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) has condemned an armed attack in Achong-Chong, Western Bahr el Ghazal state, that reportedly killed 13 security personnel and two civilians.
In a statement issued Friday, the SSCSA expressed condolences to the families, relatives, colleagues and communities affected by the attack and called for an urgent response from the authorities.
The civil society alliance urged the Western Bahr el Ghazal state authorities and the national government to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
“Such acts of violence not only cause loss of innocent lives but also undermine ongoing efforts to consolidate peace, security, social cohesion and stability in South Sudan,” the SSCSA said.
The group called on the government to strengthen security measures and take steps to protect civilians and prevent further loss of life, saying civilian protection should remain a national priority.
The SSCSA also appealed to community leaders, traditional authorities, civil society organizations and citizens to reject violence, exercise restraint and support peaceful mechanisms for resolving disputes and addressing grievances.
The alliance reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, civilian protection, human rights, accountability, justice and social cohesion, while urging all stakeholders to work together to prevent further violence and preserve peace in the country.
