President Kiir Honors Martyrs, Reaffirms Commitment to Better Service Delivery

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has paid tribute to South Sudan’s fallen heroes and heroines during the national commemoration of Martyrs’ Day, reaffirming his government’s commitment to improving public service delivery and national development.
Speaking during the ceremony in Juba, President Kiir described the sacrifices made by those who fought for the country’s liberation as the foundation of South Sudan’s independence. He urged citizens to uphold the values of unity, peace, and patriotism in honour of the nation’s martyrs.
The President said his administration remains focused on strengthening essential services, improving governance, and advancing development to improve the lives of South Sudanese.
“The history of our liberation struggle covers generations, and today, we remember our leader Comrade Dr. John Garang de Mabior, alongside all the SPLA officers and soldiers who did not leave to see the birth of our country. We honour our civilians who lost their lives during the war,” Kiir said.
He also called on the public to preserve the legacy of the country’s heroes by working together to build a peaceful, stable, and prosperous nation.
Martyrs’ Day is observed annually on 30 July to honour the men and women who sacrificed their lives during South Sudan’s long struggle for freedom and independence.
