Kiir Assents to Elections Act Amendment Ahead of December Polls

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has assented to the National Elections Act, 2012 (Amendment) Bill, 2026, marking another step in South Sudan’s preparations for the December 2026 general elections.
The amendment updates provisions of the National Elections Act, 2012, as amended in 2023, to address inconsistencies in the existing legislation and align the electoral framework with the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, 2011, as amended.
The presidency said the amended law is intended to provide a streamlined legal framework for the conduct of the upcoming elections.
The signing comes as South Sudan continues preparations for the December polls, including efforts to strengthen the legal and institutional framework governing the electoral process.
