Governor Directs New Juba Commissioner to Tackle Land Grabbing

By Kidega Livingstone

The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has tasked the newly appointed Commissioner of Juba County, Eng. Samuel Emiliano Wani, with addressing persistent land disputes in Juba.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Adil emphasized the need for proper land management. He urged the commissioner to establish effective mechanisms to resolve disputes and to work closely with individuals holding legal land titles to ensure orderly urban planning and development.

The governor noted that land grabbing remains a major challenge in the state, often driven by poor planning and rapid population growth in Juba, which has intensified competition over land ownership.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Paulino Lukudu Obede described land grabbing as one of the most pressing issues facing the capital, warning that it has become a significant source of conflict. He stressed that the new commissioner must prioritize protecting citizens’ land rights and take firm action against illegal land acquisition.

In his remarks, Commissioner Wani pledged to prioritize security and ensure that land grabbing is brought under control. He assured the public of his commitment to restoring order and safeguarding property rights in Juba.
