South Sudan, South Africa discuss elections, bilateral ties

South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister James Pitia Morgan met with South Africa’s ambassador to South Sudan, Mahlodi Sam Muofhe, on Sept. 10 to discuss bilateral relations and preparations for South Sudan’s upcoming elections.

The courtesy meeting in Juba focused on the longstanding relations between the two countries, including President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s recent bilateral working visit to South Africa, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Morgan and Muofhe also exchanged views on preparations for the December 2026 elections and ways South Africa could support the electoral process.

The officials further discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation and deepen relations between South Sudan and South Africa.
