General Assembly Endorses UJOSS Electoral Committee

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) Annual General Assembly (AGM) on Tuesday endorsed the union’s Electoral Committee (EC), paving the way for preparations for the forthcoming leadership elections.

The Electoral Committee was approved during a virtual AGM attended by more than 70 UJOSS members from across South Sudan.

The General Assembly endorsed the following senior journalists to serve on the Electoral Committee: Nichola Mandil (Chairperson), Mogga Emmanuel (Deputy Chairperson), Juliana Siapai (Secretary General), Manyang David Mayar (Information Secretary), Deng Ngor Matem (Member), Marina Modi (Member), and Chuol Jany (Member).

The endorsement officially marks the beginning of preparations for the union’s elections, with the Electoral Committee assuming its mandate immediately.

Journalists from all ten states, the administrative areas, and Juba participated in the online meeting, underscoring the union’s commitment to broad national representation.

During the meeting, members resolved that the UJOSS elections will be held in the second week of September. The Electoral Committee is expected to announce the official election timetable and date in the coming days.

Following its endorsement by the General Assembly, the Electoral Committee is now responsible for overseeing the electoral process, including setting the election schedule and ensuring that preparations are conducted in accordance with the union’s regulations.

The virtual AGM formally launched the UJOSS electoral process and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and inclusive election involving journalists from across South Sudan.
