Foreign Minister, UNMISS Chief Discuss Peace, Elections and Continued Cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, on Tuesday met with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in South Sudan and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), H.E. Anita Kiki Gbeho, to discuss key issues affecting the country’s peace and political transition.

The meeting focused on the implementation of UNMISS’s mandate, the political process, inter-party dialogue, the humanitarian situation, the protection of civilians, preparations for elections, and other areas of mutual interest.

Minister Pitia reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with UNMISS to advance peace, stability, security, and a peaceful electoral process. He also emphasized the importance of empowering young people to play an active role in building a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan.

Ms. Gbeho, in turn, reiterated UNMISS’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Government of South Sudan and pledged the Mission’s ongoing support in implementing its mandate to promote sustainable peace and stability in the country.
