Energy Minister, Central Equatoria Speaker Discuss Plans to Improve Electricity Supply
Minister of Energy and Dams Hon. Agok Makur on Monday held talks with the Speaker of the Central Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Taban Emmanuel Baya, on strategies to strengthen electricity supply and accelerate energy sector development in the state.
The meeting focused on reviewing plans to modernize electricity distribution networks, which continue to experience frequent power outages, as well as enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Dams and the state legislature to support policies that attract investment in the energy sector.
The two leaders also discussed the potential introduction of solar energy projects as sustainable and clean alternatives to complement the national power grid and help address electricity shortages in residential and industrial areas.
Minister Agok reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to addressing the technical and financial challenges affecting the state’s electricity sector, emphasizing that reliable and affordable power is essential for driving economic growth, improving public services, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
Speaker Taban Emmanuel Baya commended the ministry’s efforts to expand and improve electricity services, pledging the full support of the Central Equatoria State Parliament for legislation and initiatives aimed at strengthening the energy sector and ensuring a stable and sustainable electricity supply across the state.
The meeting underscores ongoing collaboration between the national government and state authorities to expand access to reliable electricity and promote sustainable energy solutions throughout South Sudan.
