Tanzania says preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are 90% complete as it works with Kenya and Uganda to host the continent’s biggest football tournament.Neema Msita, executive secretary of Tanzania’s National Sports Council and secretary of the country’s AFCON 2027 organizing committee, said inspections were underway simultaneously across the three host nations as preparations advance.“We are confident that, as countries, we will achieve this certification because the inspections are already underway,” Msita said. She attributed the progress to the pace of construction, contractors’ performance and the availability of funding, saying the overall state of preparations was encouraging.Construction work is continuing at sites near Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while transport services, hotels and other facilities are being prepared to accommodate teams, officials and supporters expected for the tournament.Businesses in the Tanzanian commercial capital are also upgrading their services in anticipation of increased demand during the competition.Julius Chilongani, manager of Talgwu Urban Stay Hotel, said the establishment was improving customer service and upgrading its building to meet international standards.Taxi operators are also preparing for the influx of visitors. Godwin Mugisha, chairman of the Jamhuri Street Taxi Drivers Association, said drivers were accustomed to handling major events and were looking forward to the tournament. The competition, branded AFCON PAMOJA 2027, is scheduled to run from June 19 to July 17, 2027.The tournament will be the first Africa Cup of Nations jointly hosted by three countries, marking a historic milestone for East African football.Preparations across Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda include stadiums, training facilities, accommodation and transport infrastructure, with inspections expected to assess readiness ahead of the continental competition. The tournament is expected to provide opportunities for tourism, hospitality businesses and transport operators while placing the three host countries in the international sporting spotlight.Photo Credit: Vlory
