The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Hon. Johnny Ohisa Damian, has dissolved the Bank of South Sudan Workers’ Trade Union (BoSSWTU), citing alleged misconduct, including organizing an unauthorized general assembly and inciting a staff sit-in strike.

The decision was announced in Administrative Order No. 12/BoSS/OG/2026, signed on July 8, 2026, under Section 26(1) of the Bank of South Sudan Act, as amended in 2023.

According to the order, the trade union is dissolved until further notice for allegedly conducting an illegal general assembly during which an ultimatum was issued to the bank’s top management to respond to staff demands. The order also accuses the union of inciting employees to stage a sit-in strike at the bank on July 7, 2026.

The Governor noted that the alleged incitement occurred despite the bank having paid 10 months of South Sudan Pounds (SSP) salary arrears to all staff members.

The administrative order states that the dissolution takes immediate effect from the date of the Governor’s signature.

Copies of the order were circulated to the First Deputy Governor for Policy and Banking, the Deputy Governor for Administration and Finance, all Director Generals, the Counsel General, BoSS Safety and Protection, and the National Security Service (NSS) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) units attached to the central bank.

The order did not indicate when the workers’ trade union could be reinstated, stating only that the dissolution will remain in force until further notice.
