Dawaa Islamic organization pledges poverty alleviation programs
The visiting head of the Dawaa Islamic Organization Abdurrahman AL Mahmoud on Wednesday pledged to promote poverty alleviation programs for the Muslim community in South Sudan.
“We wanted to set the organization anew, we have endorsed to restore and run humanitarian undertakings, we need to continue running activities not by depending on outside support, there is vast internal capability, every country must help its citizens,” AL Mahmoud told journalists at Pyramid Hotel in Juba.
Al Mahmoud also the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Dawaa Islamic Organization called on the Islamic council to focus more on capacity building of Muslims in the country.
“We need to empower people through education and training, we will also establish diagnostics center for medical examination in the country,” he said.
AL Mahmoud, a Qatari national is set to hold talks soon with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
AL Mahmoud in 2018 replaced Abdel Rahman Suwar al-Dahab,a former Sudanese President as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Sheikh Juma Said Ali, the former presidential advisor on Islamic Affairs, called for establishment of organizational structure in order to support the Muslim community.
“Most people running the Islamic affairs have political backgrounds and that is where we need re-organization, we have a fund that needs to be manned by qualified personnel,” Ali said.
Musa Almak Koor, the deputy chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Dawaa Islamic Organization, said that the Islamic council needs to develop curriculum for its education.
“We do not have our own curriculum, we need to develop our own curriculum and also have qualified teachers in our schools,” Koor said.
