U.K Representatives Tell South Sudan To Involve All— Before Extending Transitional Period.

By Ruot George

The United Kingdom’s special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan Mr. Robert Fair-weather has urged leaders of South Sudan to build trust by involving all stakeholders in the preparation of a roadmap aimed at extending peace implementation deadline in South Sudan.

“If there is a road map, there should be specific milestones, the only way to build confidence. We need actions rather than words and all the 42 signatories to the peace deal should be consulted not only two or nine people.” He said.

The counsels from the U.K came after the declaration by South Sudanese Cabinet Affairs Minister told the media last month that President Salva Kiir Mayardit and first vice president Dr. Riek Machar have agreed to extend the transitional period without providing any further details of the extension.

In a related development, the UK ambassador to South Sudan Mr. Jonny Baxter says some of the critical matters still pending in the peace agreement does not require cash for it to be realized.

“Unblocking the legislation which are blocked, mutual meetings between the president and the vice presidents, opening up of civic space can be done without cost.” Baxter declared.

The diplomats both called upon the leaders of South Sudan to “do as they say” so that, implementation of the crucial conditions of the   agreement is sped up.

The foreign dignitaries also told reporters in a joint interview held on Tuesday that, they have for long been requesting the parties to the agreement to set aside their differences and work together in the implementation of peace agenda.

The duo say the U.K government will continue to Support the people of South Sudan despite the lack of political will from the key players and beseeched to see action from all parties involved in the peace process.
