South Sudan Energy Minister Meets EU Ambassador Over Electricity Projects

South Sudan’s Energy and Dams Minister Agok Makur Kur met with European Union Ambassador Per Einar Einarsen on Monday to discuss cooperation on electricity projects and energy infrastructure.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Dams and the EU, including potential support for electricity generation, renewable energy, grid development, and energy and dams infrastructure.

The discussions also covered projects and programs being implemented by the ministry and opportunities for the EU to support priority initiatives in South Sudan’s electricity sector.

Einarsen also extended an official invitation to Makur to attend an Electricity Summit scheduled for November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye, as part of events associated with COP31.

The EU ambassador emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Dams and expanding partnerships to support priority energy projects.

Makur welcomed the invitation and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working with the EU and other international partners to implement major energy projects, expand electricity services and support development of the country’s energy sector.

The ministry said the cooperation is aimed at contributing to a more sustainable energy system and improving access to electricity for communities across South Sudan.
