The Gambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pan-African Institute for Development, West Africa, to strengthen cooperation in education, professional training, research and sustainable development.

The agreement was signed Aug. 20 by Ambassador Lang Yabou, permanent secretary at the ministry, and Dr. Gladys Njoukiang Asaah, regional director of PAID-WA.

The memorandum establishes a framework for collaboration in human capacity development, skills training, research and policy support, student and staff exchanges, public outreach, and the organization of conferences and workshops.

PAID-WA is a Pan-African training and research institution focused on human capacity development, professional skills training, applied research and development-oriented education.

During the signing ceremony, Yabou welcomed the partnership and said stronger cooperation among African institutions was essential to advancing development on the continent.

“Africa is for Africans to develop,” Yabou said, emphasizing the need for institutions to work together to strengthen education, expand professional opportunities and support socioeconomic transformation.

He said the ministry was committed to turning the agreement into a practical platform for innovation, capacity building and sustainable development.

Asaah expressed appreciation for the partnership and said she hoped the agreement would deepen institutional ties while expanding opportunities for training and research in The Gambia.

The partnership is expected to support capacity building and development-oriented initiatives while strengthening cooperation between the ministry and PAID-WA.
