SSRA Board Holds Second Meeting of Reconstituted Board of Directors

The reconstituted Board of Directors of the South Sudan Revenue Authority held its second meeting Friday at the SSRA headquarters in Juba, focusing on revenue performance, budget execution and priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The meeting began with the adoption of the agenda and a review and approval of minutes from the board’s previous meeting held June 8, 2026.
Board members are also considering the board calendar for the 2026/2027 financial year, as well as the Authority’s revenue performance and budget execution reports for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The board is expected to review and deliberate on the proposed SSRA budget for the 2026/2027 financial year.
Other items on the agenda include reports from the Committee on Legal Services and Board Affairs concerning the Authority’s organizational structure, as well as a committee report on the SSRA’s information and communication technology strategy.
Opening the meeting, SSRA Board Chairperson David Deng Athorbei highlighted the economic challenges facing South Sudan and called for stronger efforts to increase non-oil revenue collection.
Athorbei linked some of the country’s recent economic difficulties to the ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan, which has disrupted South Sudan’s oil sector, the country’s main source of government revenue.
He urged board members to prioritize measures that would strengthen non-oil revenue collection and help the government finance essential services.
“It is important for us to sit and find a way of making our revenue for funding some of the critical areas like payment of salaries, and then critical issues like education and health,” Athorbei said.
He also called on board members to support efforts to improve the efficiency of the revenue authority.
“Therefore, I am calling on you, members of the board, to really try your best to help SSRA to be efficient,” he said.
The board’s deliberations are expected to inform the SSRA’s revenue administration, budget planning and institutional priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year.
