The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have signed a Project Collaboration Agreement to strengthen health research, data collection, and statistical capacity across South Sudan.

The partnership aims to improve the generation of reliable, timely health data to support evidence-based decision-making, guide targeted interventions, and enhance health outcomes nationwide.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, the WHO Representative in South Sudan, emphasized the critical importance of investing in health statistics.

“Investing in statistics is investing in health. Better data means better policies, programs, and outcomes for South Sudan,” Karamagi said.

Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai, Chairperson of the National Bureau of Statistics, said the agreement provides a practical framework for cooperation to strengthen the national health information system and advance evidence-based policy and planning.

He noted that the partnership marks a vital step toward a more coordinated, nationally driven approach to generating health data and evidence in South Sudan.
