The Sudan government has accepted the proposal of the Sudan People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) under Abdelaziz Adam Alhilu through the mediation team to amicably negotiate on the pending tasks.
Khalid Omar, the Sudanese Cabinet Affairs Minister who also doubles as the head of Sudan transitional government’s mediation team said the transitional government was committed to negotiating with the opposition groups, SPLM-N in good faith.
“We will continue to dialogue over contentious issues to reach comprehensive and permanent peace in the country, we have to address the issues affecting the country.
“We have reservations on the proposal of the SPLM-N but we will continue to negotiate for a final settlement,”
Sudan’s October 2020 peace agreement, involved the interim government and rebel movements in Darfur and the SPLM-N under Malik Agar in the country’s transition.
Two main opposition groups, SPLM-N under Abdelaziz Adam Alhilu and Sudan Liberation Movement/Army led by Abdulwahid Mohamed Alnur did not sign the October 2020 peace deal.
Kuku Jakdol, the spokesperson for the SPLM-N said that the response from the government is a positive move towards the direction of bringing lasting peace to Sudan.
“We have receive the government response and it is highly positive that means we are recommitted to outstanding issues, we will revisit and negotiate over reservation and in the next few days we shall have reached lasting solution,” said Jakdol
“The country separated because the unity was not embraced, the separation was sparked by politics of discrimination, the Sudan December revolution call for peace in the country, it is important that we put war to an end,” he reiterated.
President Salva Kiir formed a tasked committee headed up by his advisor for security affairs, Tut Gatluak, to initiate talks between the opposition disgruntled group and the Sudanese government.
“We call upon the Sudanese people to stand behind the negotiating team, the negotiation is progressing well, as soon as possible, the two sides will signed an agreement that will help the country to resolve economic, social and political challenges,” said Galuak
