IDPs in Abyei appeal for humanitarian support
The chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Abyei Administrative Area has appealed for humanitarian support for thousands of internally displaced persons.
The IDPs are victims of the two recent conflicts between Ngok Dinka and armed youth from Twic County of neighboring Warrap state.
The conflict that occurred on November 19 left more than 36 people killed following an attack by Twic County youth.
Ajak Deng Miyen, the chairperson of Relief Rehabilitation Commission in Abyei, said they have held talks with the UN office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other partners to support the IDPs who are in dire need of assistance.
“The situation is still tense but humanitarian organizations are currently doing the assessment on the internally displaced people,”
He said the IDPs are living in worse conditions without food, water and medicines.
Miyen said the ongoing assessment by humanitarian organizations is meant to pave way for NGOs to provide humanitarian assistance to the IDPs.
He appealed to the national government to push for permanent resolution of the conflict between Ngok Dinka and Twic community over the land boundary.
