Governor Emmanuel Adil Adil and his accompanying delegation have today paid an acquaintance visit to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltering in Sokare, Liwolo Payam of Kajo-Keji County and delivered assorted food items including beans, flour, and among others as the humanitarian situation remains dire.
During the visit, Governor Adil encouraged the IDPs to remain strong, saying his administration, is working around the clock to solicit humanitarian aid for the displaced population following the recent standoff at the border point.
The Governor added that the State Government is working closely with relevant authorities in National Government to find an amicable solution to the persistent territorial encroachment along the border.
He also used the visit to communicate the resolutions of the just-concluded joint border meeting. Governor Adil urged the displaced to respect and adhere to the resolutions by embracing peaceful coexistence.
The Governor further assured that the Government, through the State Ministry of Health and its partners, shall be engaging to provide aid to the vulnerable population. Governor Adil further urged the community to continue defending their ancestral lands through legal channels and within the guarding laws of South Sudan.
The IDPs welcomed the visit by Governor and appealed for de-escalation in order for them to return to their homes. They described the Governorβs visit to the area as timely.
The St. Paul Cathedral in Sokare is hosting the largest number of the IDPs.
