Teachers warned to steer away from love affairs with learners

Teachers in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have been warned dire consequences if found to be involved in love affairs with learners.
This comes after five teachers were arrested last week by police for gang-raping a girl at Cornerstone Academy in Aweil town.
Santino Bol Akot Nguel, the director general of the state ministry of general education and instruction, said the teachers implicated in the sexual-related crime will be dismissed from their duties.
“We don’t condone such practices which are unethical in the teaching profession,” Akot told journalists in Aweil town.
He said that the warning goes to all teachers in private, community, and church-based or public schools.
Aweil resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity on the matter, said the dismissal of the five of teachers is not enough as they could transfer to any other school and repeat the same offences.
“A teacher can escape to another school from the state and get a job. They should have been banned from the teaching profession for some years,” the source said.
He appealed to authorities to arraign such culprits before courts of law so that justice is served for their victims.
