The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that the “South Sudan Women in Diplomacy Network” will be officially launched in July, marking a significant step toward strengthening the role of women in the country’s diplomatic service.
The announcement was made during celebrations marking the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, where senior female diplomats highlighted the contributions of South Sudanese women to peacebuilding, international cooperation, and foreign policy since the nation’s independence.
The initiative is scheduled to be launched by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. James Pitia Morgan, in collaboration with the Institute of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
A Platform for Mentorship and GrowthMinistry spokesperson Ambassador Agok Anyar Madut stated that the network will provide a dedicated platform to promote mentorship, professional development, and greater participation of women in foreign service. It will also recognize the achievements of female diplomats who have represented South Sudan at both regional and international levels.
During the event, speakers paid tribute to the pioneering women who served during the liberation struggle and those who have gone on to serve as ministers, undersecretaries, ambassadors, and heads of diplomatic missions, describing their work as instrumental in advancing the country’s foreign relations.
The forum also celebrated South Sudan’s growing representation in international diplomacy, noting that the country produced one of the world’s youngest female permanent representatives to the United Nations.
