The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in customs administration, trade facilitation, and revenue management.

The agreement was signed by SSRA Commissioner General Moun Deng Ajuet and TRA Commissioner General Youssouf Juma, marking a new phase of collaboration between the two tax administrations.

Juma said the MoU will enable both authorities to integrate their systems and improve information sharing to enhance customs operations.

He also revealed that Tanzania is working with relevant government institutions, including the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), to allocate land at Kwala to the SSRA.

“We have started working on that. We are engaging different government authorities, including TPA, and I am confident that before the end of October, all the required permits for the allocation will be in place,” Juma said.

Commissioner General Moun Deng Ajuet said the MoU provides a framework for collaboration in staff training, capacity building, customs administration, trade facilitation, and implementation of the East African Community Single Customs Territory framework.

“This memorandum is a framework that will guide our cooperation. It allows us to identify areas where we need support from our sisterly country and provides guidance on how we conduct our business,” Ajuet said.

He added that the partnership will also support the promotion of the Dar es Salaam–South Sudan trade corridor through improved customs procedures and digital integration.

According to the two authorities, the partnership is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, improve customs efficiency, facilitate regional trade, and deepen cooperation between South Sudan and Tanzania in revenue administration.
