South Sudan Participates in AU Session on Water and Sanitation in Addis Ababa

South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Akuei Bona Malwal, and his delegation on Tuesday participated in the opening of a two-day African Union (AU) session at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting, taking place from July 28–29, is being held under the theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

The session is focusing on the critical challenges of ensuring access to clean water and safe sanitation across Africa, recognizing that both are essential for economic development, public health, and the realization of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 aspirations.

The opening ceremony brought together representatives of AU member states to strengthen cooperation and promote collective action in addressing water and sanitation challenges as key pillars of sustainable development across the continent.

South Sudan’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to advancing regional collaboration on sustainable water management and improved sanitation services in support of Africa’s long-term development goals.
