South Sudan institutes investigation into plane crash

By Tapeng Michael Ohure

South Sudan has instituted an investigation into a plane crash in the capital this week.

The cargo plane, destined for Maban, crashed immediately after take-off from Juba International Airport on October 2.

The Ministry of Transport has already formed a committee to investigate the cause of the crash, Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

They were also directed to “make sure all the planes that are operating in South Sudan are properly checked,” he said. “Some are not flying anywhere but only here.”

Five people died in the crash, including four crews, two Sudanese and two Russians, and a South Sudanese passenger.
