South Sudan Cabinet Approves Amendments to Elections Act

The Council of Ministers has approved amendments to the Elections Act 2012 to support the conduct of the country’s forthcoming general elections, the government said Friday.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in Juba on Sept. 11, 2026.

The proposed amendments, presented by Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol, seek to update the legal framework governing the electoral process and address key provisions ahead of the elections.

The approved amendments will be submitted to the Transitional National Legislative Assembly for consideration and ratification before being presented to President Kiir for assent.

The government did not provide details of the specific provisions being amended.

The Cabinet also approved resolutions related to trade and public administration, according to a statement issued by the Office of the President.
