President Kiir fires Africano Mande as head of tax body
President Kiir has fired Africano Mande as the Commissioner General of National Revenue Authority and appointed Simon Akuei Deng as the new head of the tax body. The announcement was made on state-owned, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.
The tax body is set up to try and diversify the country’s tax base but it’s operations remain largely opaque. how much the body collects is always not revealed to the public.
South Sudan depends on oil money to fund more than 80 percent of the country’s budget.
