Newly appointed central Bank governor promises transparency

The newly appointed governor of the Bank of South Sudan James Alic Garang on Wednesday said he will ensure the bank activities are performed in a transparent manner.

He said during his swearing-in that transparency and effective communication are some of the main key themes of running a modern central bank.

“The last point that I will add which is not our own at the bank but also cuts across the board is an element of seeking greater autonomy, we will do whatever we can to improve the general welfare and the working environment going forward,” Garang said.

President Salva Kiir on Monday relieved the central bank governor Johnny Ohisa Damian and the first deputy governor Addis Ababa Othow.

Kiir replaced the pair with James Alic Garang and Samuel Yanga as the first deputy governor.

James Alic Garang previously worked as advisor with the International Monetary Fund.
