Ministry of Labour, IOM Partner to Train Over 10,000 South Sudanese Youth

The Ministry of Labour and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening vocational training and skills development opportunities for young people across South Sudan.The agreement, signed on Thursday at the Ministry of Labour headquarters in Juba, establishes a framework for cooperation to enhance the country’s labour market through vocational training and market-driven skills development programs.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Minister of Labour Hon. Anthony Lino Makana said the partnership reflects the government’s commitment to empowering young people and addressing unemployment through practical skills training.
“This partnership is designed to support more than 10,000 young people with vocational training and market-relevant skills that will improve their employability and economic opportunities,”* Minister Makana said.
The MoU was signed by Minister Makana on behalf of the Government of South Sudan and Ms. Vijaya Souri, Chief of Mission for IOM South Sudan, on behalf of the organization. The event was witnessed by senior government officials, including the Ministry’s Undersecretary, development partners, and stakeholders.
Ms. Vijaya Souri reaffirmed IOM’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s workforce development agenda and promoting sustainable livelihoods for communities across the country.
“IOM remains committed to working closely with the Government of South Sudan to promote decent work opportunities and create pathways for sustainable livelihoods, particularly for young people,” she said.
Officials said the partnership will focus on expanding access to vocational training, enhancing employability, and supporting national development efforts through a skilled and productive workforce.
The Ministry of Labour expressed optimism that the collaboration will contribute to creating more employment opportunities and strengthening the country’s human capital development.
