IOM provides cash to 17,000 returnees in N. Bahr El Ghazal state

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided cash to
about 17,000 returnees in Maper-Akot-aru payam in Aweil town.

The cash that was distributed to those with vouchers on Tuesday is
meant to support these people who fled conflict in Sudan to buy basic
necessities such as food, medicines and others.

Dut Garang Deng, the representative of the Northern Bahr El Ghazal
state Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Aweil town told journalists
that each recipient got 104,000 South Sudanese Pounds.
Deng said that they will be lloking forward to assist returnees in the
counties after providing cash to those based in Aweil town.
He disclosed that majority of returnees lack proper shelter to stay with
their families, adding that the state ministry of physical infrastructure is
looking toward providing them with plots to set up shelter.
One of the beneficiaries of the cash transfer, Adeng Bak Dut said she is
relieved after getting the cash from IOM, adding that she had not
expected to be among those to receive the support.
“This financial aid is of importance to us. It has come at the right time as
most of us are now striving to get proper shelter. The rainy season is
coming to an end we wish to have our own shelters,” Bak said.
Thousands of other returnees including Sudanese refugees camping at
Wadwill in Aweil, are still staying in difficult conditions.
Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap, Unity and Jonglei states are hosting
over 380,000 returnees and refugees who fled fighting in neighboring
Sudan since April 15.
