By Adia Jildo

The government has reported a decline in cholera cases due to a recent mass cholera vaccination campaign initiative.

The country has seen a total of 28,900 cholera cases, resulting in 496 deaths, with an increase in cases in Panjijar (31 cases), Awerial, and Yirol West.

“The cases are declining because of the intervention and efforts that have been put in place,” said Mabior Kiir Kudior, Chief of Planning and Information for the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center.

The g

government has swiftly intervened, covering high-risk areas and deploying vaccines.

“We have completed

oral cholera vaccination for Reng, Malakal, Bor, Aweil, Juba, Mayom, and we are expected to start in Gwit,” he said.

Responders have been sent to all areas of South Sudan to actively support the response, according to the government.

“We have seen a significant

improvement and our surveillance is working well. We have completed the oral cholera vaccination for Rukona,” he added.

Plans are in progress to conduct a mass cholera vaccine campaign in Twic County, Jonglei State, targeting around 45,000 people.
