Business Community Pledges Support for Elections, Demands Refund if Polls Are Blocked

The South Sudan Businessmen’s Union says its members are prepared to financially support independent candidates and other political groups participating in the country’s upcoming elections.

Speaking on behalf of the business community on Sunday, Ayii Duang Ayii said businessmen are also willing to support political parties backed by members of the organized forces, provided they are participating in the electoral process.

However, Duang said the financial support would be tied to the elections taking place as scheduled.

He warned that if the elections are delayed, blocked or disrupted, businessmen would seek the return of funds provided to individuals or political groups found to be obstructing the electoral process.

“Our support is based on the elections taking place as planned. If the elections are blocked or delayed, we will seek the return of the money given to those involved,”Duang said.

He emphasized the need for financial contributions to be properly managed and directed toward supporting a credible and peaceful electoral process.

The Businessmen’s Union’s position comes as South Sudan prepares for the upcoming elections, with political parties and independent candidates stepping up preparations for the polls.

Duang urged all stakeholders to ensure that financial support serves the broader electoral process and contributes to credible, transparent and peaceful elections.South Sudan is going to have its first ever general election on December 2026.
