The Ministry of Health and development partners have convened in Juba for a review meeting to assess progress in implementing the third year, first quarter of the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP), as the government seeks to address challenges affecting healthcare delivery across the country. The meeting brings together ministry officials, project fund managers and implementing partners to evaluate achievements, identify implementation gaps and agree on measures to strengthen coordination and improve access to essential health services.Speaking at the meeting, Director General for International Health and Coordination Dr. Jonathan Majok, who represented the Ministry of Health Undersecretary, commended implementing partners and fund managers for their continued cooperation in sustaining health services despite operational challenges. He cited delays in health worker incentives and shortages of essential medicines as some of the persistent challenges affecting the delivery of healthcare services.Majok reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening the national health system and ensuring that health facilities and frontline workers receive the necessary support to provide essential services. He said the ministry would continue working with development partners to address implementation bottlenecks and improve healthcare delivery across the country. He also praised health workers for their dedication and resilience in serving communities, often under difficult working conditions and with limited medical supplies and delayed incentives. The Health Sector Transformation Project is a government-led initiative financed by the World Bank and a consortium of development partners. It aims to expand access to essential health and nutrition services while strengthening the country's health system. The project also seeks to support the transition towards a more resilient, sustainable and government-led healthcare system in South Sudan. The review meeting is expected to strengthen coordination among stakeholders, identify practical solutions to implementation challenges and improve the delivery of quality healthcare services to communities.Photo Credit: Ministry of Health
